When I was first introduced to the term “the hidden job market”, my curiosity left me wondering – what sort of four-leaf clover type luck makes up this pot of gold, which is surely there at the end of the “hidden job market rainbow”? Mind you, this term was not something I ever initiated conversations about with others. Some spoke about it, but I did not pay too much attention to look beyond the question of its existence. When I find myself thinking about it, I feel disheartened for the numerous job seekers who feel left out and behind; not knowing how to find this hidden job market or discover whether or not it is an actual entity.
The truth is, everything is available for job seekers to understand and pursue, if you are prepared to go after the opportunity. Showing job seekers how to work smarter, working with recruiters to formalize a strategy, and seeing the results in one way or another is very rewarding for me. I hold and pull from a wealth of experience, knowledge, and resources available. What I add to your brilliance, as a career coach, is how I use tools of the trade; it’s in the way I pull all the pieces together as I create specialized action plans for each client.
Coaching an individual to understand how to look for opportunities, how to plant seeds of growth, and tend to future career opportunities is incredible. My life mission, passion really, is to simplify, and provide education. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and expertise. As a career coach, my purpose is to ensure a person does not feel bad for a lack of understanding. I’m happy and excited for job seekers when I witness their “aha” moments. I provide guidance through insightful and inspiring presentations, leading real discussions, and taking quantifiable actions of holding clients accountable. It’s also a matter of giving the right guidance, understanding where the opportunities are and having a strong network to rely on when looking for most updated information.
Of course, all of this takes stepping forward; I have only attempted to map out how best I can strategize with job seekers on their job search goals. I’m also seeking to carry this conversation forward, while reminding you that I’ve got you covered. What seems hidden is actual expertise involved in being a career coach; Don’t be concerned in not figuring it all out because this is not what you decided to do for your career; it is what I chose for mine.
The reality is, I am a career professional and job seekers are not. Honestly, think about it for a moment, why should anyone be hard on themselves for not being able to be or do something outside of their scope? After twenty plus years in the careers profession with certifications highlighting my work in the industry, I’m elated I get to continue learning more and supporting people as they go after their dream careers.
Let’s get to work.
Smiles, Leah
